Google shuts off a link factor
March 2012 Google Report (Confirmed: Google Panda 3.3)
Google has confirmed another Panda update 3.3, I believe it started sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning Feb 25th/26th.
Google said “This launch refreshes data in the Panda system, making it more accurate and more sensitive to recent changes on the web”
Google shuts off a link factor
As part of some of the 40 Google changes, Google said they made a change to how they evaluate links.
Google wrote: “Link evaluation. We often use characteristics of links to help us figure out the topic of a linked page. We have changed the way in which we evaluate links; in particular, we are turning off a method of link analysis that we used for several years. We often rearchitect or turn off parts of our scoring in order to keep our system maintainable, clean and understandable.”
As you can see, Google has turned off one of many methods they use to analyze their link evaluation. The key here is they have used it for “several years” and suddenly they have decided to switch the lights out.
So which link method do you think they shut down based on your experience in the past two weeks?
Title Tag, Surrounding Text, Position of a Link, HTML Signals, Age of Link, Pagerank, other?
Title Tag
The title tag is a signal of what a web page is generally about. The title tag has been used to help identify the meaning of a linked page from the general theme of the page linking to it. The title tag is a signal of the general theme of a web page. The topic of a link can vary from a side topic to a more granular or a completely off topic meaning.
Surrounding Text
This establishes the context of a link, thus helping to define what the linked web page is about. This also helps identify if a link is paid for or is associated with a donation.
Position of a link
Where a link is located is an important signal. A link in the footer is presumed to be less important than a link within the body of a web page. Navigational links are presumed to be depreciated according to a set amount, perhaps more than outbound links but just a fraction of a normal non-depreciated link.
HTML signals
These include Heading Tags [w3.org], bold, italics, capitalization and font size. Font size is an interesting candidate for deprecation.

How to write blogs that matter
1. Make real connections
Often people get too attached to just writing and forget the audience that are intended to read their blogs. The world wide web runs on personal connections, similar to everything in our lives. Stay in touch with people over social media for example Facebook, Twitter and don’t forget to get out and meet people. Gym centers, bars & restaurants are a great start. You can also try some communities that can teach you some new and exciting hobbies. Friends want to network and help each other so get outside today and make some new friends.
2. Help People
Rarely good things happen in business (or life for that matter) if your number one priority is not helping people. If you aren’t focussing on how to help people then you need to try something different. Nothing makes you feel more positive than assisting people in a way thats individual to who you are. If you can perfect this that the world is your oyster. Business starts and finishes with helping people. Always do your best to assist people and great things will happen.
3. Write mind blowing content
Corbett gets straight to the point and calls it “writing epic shit”. If it’s not high quality then it’s just not worth writing. This has never been more realistic then today in to the online and written niche. The standards surpass the moon and if you write garbage then you can only expect garbage outcomes. No matter what tools you use in social media, and how you master those tools, without the mind blowing content your blog is always just going to be another blog. However, if you focus on helping people because you have a burning desire to do so, then “mind blowing content: will naturally follow. Complete your blog with your very very best content and people will begin to notice and start giving you word of mouth traffic.
4. Have a cause worth following
You need to blog about something that you truly believe in. People will be attracted to your beliefs if you can express yourself in a way that they can connect with. I believe everyone has a cause worth following, you just need to search deep within and find out what is yours. There has been a saying going around which is quite misleading that if you build your castle they will come. However, this is missing the key element of creating a cause and sharing it with people. Remember that you don’t need to be a leader to be worth following, being the first to follow the leader and putting your self out there is the most risky step you will take in this life.

The Private Network Review
The Private Network Review
I am pleased to be reviewing The Private Network. I am constantly getting asked what works and what doesn’t work in this day and age, and one thing that has always worked and still works are backlinks from high quality sites with age, authority and Pagerank. That is the premise behind private networks like BuildMyRank, Linkvana, BacklinK Solutions and BlogBlueprint.. The link networks exist, because they work, and in reality, when you think about it, at its core, you are simply distributing content to blogs and websites. So to that end, let’s get on with my “The Private Network review“.
The Private Network Review Structure
First of all, what is The Private Network. As mentioned above, it is yet another entrant into the world of private blog networks. It is a collection of aged blogs with PageRank and authority, such as all the other networks mentioned above. It is more along the lines of a Linkvana because their PageRank distribution is to PR 1 to P4 websites, whereas BuildMyRank does PR1 through PR6 and even had a PR7 at one point, but I believe that was lost to one of the recent pagerank updates. That being said, when you look closely at your BuildMyRank distributions you will notice that about 90% of your distributions are going to PR4 and lower, and there is nothing wrong with that, that is the nature of the game.
Maintaining a high PageRank network is hard, hard work. Believe me, I know first hand. But the point is, that the PageRank distribution being offered by The Private Network is on par with what their competition is doing, which is a good thing. But The Private network is not just like those others, they are a high bred network, because while they allow posting to their sites like the others, they are also a HomePage backlinks network as well. Meaning you will get posts placed on their blogs homepage that will be marked sticky and will stay on the high PR homepage as long as you stay subscribed.
The Private Network claims that all of their sites are on unique Class C and even A and B IP Addresses, that each site has its own unique theme, and each site has WhoIs privacy or a unique WhoIs profile. They claim no foot prints and that each site would pass a manual Google review, now all link networks have foot prints, the question is how large is their’s, but they are taking the necessary steps to avoid as much as they can.
This is really nothing new, pretty much all networks offer this at this point, and if they don’t, then they are setting themselves up for failure. So in reality while these are all nice feature for us as clients, they are must haves for them as the owners, because if they don’t protect the integrity of their network, they are the ones that will lose big as huge swaths of their network get discovered and wiped out as we have seen happen countless of times with other networks. So from the start this is all good stuff to have and to know that they are doing.
The Private Network Review Sidebar – Just how important is this?
Well, without naming names, we’ve seen one private network lose over 400 sites. Not once, but twice in an 18 month period. That particular network was not even 500 strong, so basically it was almost completely wiped out – TWICE! So yes, this is a *real* concern not only of network owners but for you as well. Because if their network gets wiped out, so do your links.
The Private Network Review Features
With so many link networks vying for your attention, each one throws in their own features that set them apart. The Private Network, while allowing you to post to their network such as you do with the other networks, also offers you homepage links on their network sites as I mentioned earlier. This alone is worth the monthly price to be honest with you. In fact, they state the price of admission is for the homepage backlinks and you are allowed to post to the network as long as you are a member, which is kind of a play on words I suppose, but none the less they offer great value at their price points.
In reality the posting by clients provides their blogs with fresh content so they don’t sit stale with just homepage links. So to be clear, what you get from The Private Network is a 100 word post, written by them, for your chosen keywords and urls that they then post to their website and mark it sticky and keep it on their websites homepage for as long as you stay subscribed. Once your subscription ends the posts will not be removed, but they will not stay on the homepage either; they will just roll off the page like any other non-sticky blog post. The amount of homepage links depends upon which package you purchase, but 100 homepage links is the smallest package. These homepage links are called Premium Links on their website. And creating them was a breeze. As you can see from the pictures below:
Once we signed up we were walked through a few sign up pages where we added our premium links information such as domain, url keywords and we were off to the races, the whole process took about 5 minutes.
Now that you have your homepage links all set up what’s left is a private blog network to which you can add posts just like all the other networks. With The Private network you able to add 1 link per 150 words, just like BMR offers. So conveniently, since my writers are already used to writing tens of thousands of posts for BMR a month, Ican just use some of those for The Private network as well. The difference with these guys is that they will only allow 5 posts per day per domain which is less than you can do with other networks, but it is still 150 links per month per domain which is not bad.
The only concern I have with this is that with so many homepage links, our regular links probably wont see much time on the homepage. While the premise with other networks is that you post, it gets indexed on the high PR homepage and then rolls off the homepage. TPN will may wind up getting indexed on its inner page alone, which is ok, because you still get the age and authority of the blog itself and it’s a good link, but in my opinion not as powerful as the homepage links you will receive from them or the regular links you will receive from other networks. So we would not recommend posting too heavily to this network like you do with a BMR or Linkvana, because the real power behind TPN is their homepage links.
One thing I took to is that at the moment they do not offer an import feature for posts, but they have instructed me that the import feature will soon be available and they are currently testing it. So for the moment you have to add your posts one at a time, which is a pain, but shortly you should be able to import your posts. Also they do not allow spun content, as per their support staff. Now that being said, Linkvana says they don’t allow spun content either, but you can push well spun posts through the Linkvana network. We are not personally recommending you try, nor are we going to try to buck the system, but if anyone does, let us know. If they are anything like the BMR editors you won’t be able to sneak spun content through, so just how well they check their posts or not is still up in the air. They do have their own outsourced writers available as well for post writing or you can alternatively use ArticlesOnTap.com to purchase content.
Another item worth mentioning is their interface, it is very clean and intuitive to use. We have seen a few others fail at the interface level, and really not having providing a good user experience right off the bat can sour you on a service right away. So this was good to see. Additionally their support was very helpful and quick in answering any questions we had. And one more important aspect we learned that wasn’t mentioned on their FAQ at the time, is that they maintain keyword exclusivity for the premium links, meaning once you pick a keyword for your premium links nobody else will be able to use that same keyword for their premium links, that is of course unless someone else beats you to your chosen keyword. So sign up before your competition does I suppose.
The Private Network Review Results
I just added keywords and links and posted some content to their network, so in all fairness I can’t speak for actual results of their network. But from my real world experience of being a member of just about every link network in existence, I can pretty much speculate what will happen and feel fairly confident in recommending the service.
The fact is that these networks work – BMR works, Linkvana works, they all work – so there is no reason to believe this will not work. I have used homepage backlinks from other providers. They work, different niches and different websites will have varying results, but in a nutshell getting homepage backlinks from sites with PageRank should and usually will help your rankings. I also post content to all the major networks out there and it works, so posting to their network of blogs should more than likely help your rankings as well. Again this all depends on your niche and your site age and authority. I would not recommend that The Private Network be your only method of linkbuilding for any website, but I would recommend it for people that are already using a lot of other services and are looking for more links, more diversity, and just more in general for their linkbuilding.
That being said, I will update this post in about 30 days to post about any recent results, while I selected a couple keywords I am doing other linkbuilding campaigns to, I also selected a few keywords I haven’t ever done a thing to – so I can measure the results. So please do check back if you wish, but I encourage you to sign up while the network is new and not saturated and see the results for yourself – the beginning of a private network service is always the best time to join and use it before the masses come rolling in. When BMR first got started, I had posts sitting on their website’s homepages for months before people started swarming their network.
The Private Network Review Support
So far, I have opened two tickets, and they have both been answered within a few minutes. I suspect that is because the service is new and they don’t have a lot of tickets yet, but thus far they have been helpful and they even sent some recommendations via the support desk, which may be helpful to others with their SEO efforts.
The Private Network Review Pricing
Their pricing in my opinion is actually very fair, their starter package is $105 a month and for that you receive 100 homepage backlinks for which you can distribute on 8 keywords, within 4 urls on 2 domains. Additionally for that $105 a month you can post up to 300 posts with 1 link in each for two domains, that is 5 posts a day per domain. Now keep in mind that does not factor in the cost of content for those 5 posts a day per domain, so you will need to either write content or purchase it.
Most homepage backlinks services alone charge you around $100 a month just for the homepage backlinks, so with this network you also get access to the network posting for that same price. This is extremely reasonable in our opinion. They also offer an Advanced package for $190 which will supply you with 200 homepage backlinks and posting for four domains, and a ultimate for $270 a month for 300 homepage backlinks and posting for 6 domains. One more thing that they offer is free 1 on 1 SEO advice and coaching with one of their SEO Experts, we didn’t test this feature out, so we can’t speak to its effectiveness but as a bonus add on – its a nice to have.
The Private Network Review Bonus
The Private Network appears to be a nice addition to the stable of private networks, while we recommend BMR for their high quality network, this service should be a great addition, and we are thrilled to be using it. However it would be great to have some free content to post to The Private Network. If you purchase The Private Network via my link I will send you twenty (20) FREE 150 word The Private Network posts each month you stay subscribed to TPN. The articles are provided by the Social Media Chairman, so you can be assured they are top quality, 100% unique articles ready to post.

Social Media in North America
Hello and welcome to the Social Media Chairman’s Blog, today we are going to take a look at a recent survery in regards to the social media habits of North Americans. I’ve entitled this blog as Social Media in North America.
Almost 2 out of 3 adults in North America who are online are using social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or Linkedin. According to a recent survey they say the primary consideration for using these sites are to connect with members of their family or with friends (old ones and new ones). Of those using social media two thirds say that keeping in touch with friends and members of their family is a major reason they engage in these sites, additionally around 50% report that connected with old friends is a major reason for their adoption to social media.
On a smaller scale 14% say they are joining the social media craze for their shared hobby or interests and only 9% are there to make new friends. Amazingly the lowest reporting percentage are reading comments by public figures and finding that special romantic partner on 5% and 3% respectively.
Of course keeping close contact is a major factor across a range of social media users but it especiall the case for females. Those who report that keeping up to date with family member as a major reason in using social networking sites are quite a diverse group by demographics. 66% or two out of three social media aspirants claim family connections as a major reason for their use.
However there are are no major differences on this question in terms of age, income, education, race/ethnicity, parental status or place of residence. The major difference is between females as opposed to their male counterparts (72% vs 55%) Staying in touch with current friends and reconnecting with old friends is most relevant for those under the age of 50
Approximately seven in ten users under the age of fifty say that staying in touch with current friends is a major reason they use online social platforms, and more than half state that connecting with old friends is just as important.
Women are slightly more likely than men to say that staying in touch with current friends is a major reason for using online social tools (70% vs. 63%) while parents say they are more likely than non-parents that they are connecting with old friends as a major cause behind their use of these sites (56% vs. 47%).
Groups that are more likely than average to use social media to make new friends include men (12% say that making new friends is a major reason for using these sites), African Americans (15%), those who have a high school diploma but have not attended college (16%) and those with an annual household income under $30,000 (18%).
In comparison of keeping in touch with or striking up a rebond with old friendships, the ability to connect with others who share a hobby or interest using social media resonates with a slightly older type of users. Sixteen percent of 30-49 year olds and 18% of 50-64 year olds report that connecting with others with common hobbies or interests as a major reason they use social networking sites, compared to 10% of 18-29 year olds.
Twitter users are more interested in making a connection with public figures in comparison to those social media users who are not using Twitter. More than ten percent of Twitter users say that reading comments by politicians, celebrities or athletes is a major reason they use online social networks, and thirty percent say that this is a minor reason for their patronage of these sites.
Very few social media users admit that finding potential romantic partners or people to date plays a role in their use of these sites overall more than 80% do not use these sites for that purpose at all. Most of the remainder say that the prospect of romance is only a minor reason. Most differences on this question are quite modest for example, men are twice as likely as women to say that finding potential dating or romantic partners is a minor reason for using online social platforms (17% vs. 9%) but overall few men say that this is a major factor (just 4% do so).
To be sure, many Americans are currently in relationships or may not otherwise be seeking dating or romantic partners in any venue (on social networking sites or otherwise). Among those users who identify themselves as single, separated or divorced, 6% say that finding romantic or dating partners is a major reason why they use these sites (an additional 27% say that this is a minor reason for their social media usage).
Signing off,
Aspiring writers all around the USA are wondering why their e-books are not selling well outside of the USA. There are several reasons for this, however one major obstruction is the $2 bump that Amazon tags on all e-books outside of North America.
This additional charge is implemented by Amazon, and goes directly into Amazons coffers. It has absolutely nothing to do with taxes. Additionally this extra amount is placed whether the user downloads e-books through their Kindle or not, even if it is being downloaded to Kindle for PC.
I had just recently discovered this with my friend and he was shocked to discover this matter. We became aware of this when he blogged to all of our group of friends that he would like for us to assist him with his e-book at a low price of $0.99 to assist him in his rankings. With me being in Manila, Philippines when I clicked on his e-book link the cost displayed to me was $2.99 and to our shocking discovery another potential customer revealed that the e-book would cost him $3.44.
Now the first piece of discovery that is shocking is that non of this extra charge never sees the pockets of the American writer. This is totally additional income for the big portal, nice one Amazon. If you live in USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, or the other “Amazon Germany” countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein), you escape this surchage.
If you are unlucky enough to live outside of these regions you will recieve this friendly (tounge in cheek) $2 surchage. If you read e-books and live outside of the above listed coutries (which is most of the world) this really affects how much you are going to pay Amazon. On the flipside if you are an aspiring writer and are wanting to reach an international audience (it makes sense considering this is an $85 billion pool) this is placing a wedge in your ability to sell globally today.
Now you might say, this is no biggie, but please don’t forget that there are millions of potential readers around the world who love to read English books, and it might seem just a drop in the ocean but this 200% markup makes a lot of difference over thousand of potential readers.
So when you go to Amazon.com and search for an e-book, depending on which country you are in you could see the price of $0.99, $1.16, $2.99 or $3.33 just depending on your present location. Don’t forget no matter how much you pay, the author of the e-book still on recieves $0.35. Except for approximately 15% sales tax, the big Amazon keeps the rest.
Upon further investigation e-books cost $1.16 in Ireland due to the fact that a 15% VAT (Value Added Tax) and kindly they add some extra few cents for additional internet delivery costs despite the fact the openly say that delivery by internet is “free” to it’s subscribers.
However, in most of the world the same $0.99 e-book in reality will cost $3.44. The break down is $0.99 plus an amazon handshake charge of $2 so the final total income for Amazon is $2.99 then after a levy of 15% VAT (sales tax) the eventual amount that will be deducted from your credit card or paypal is $3.44. (This 15% seems not applicable in Philippines as of yet)
Why A Surcharge?
So now that i’ve given you some examples above to clarify this has nothing to do with taxes and in addition non of this additional charges are going to aspiring authours, where on earth is this money going to?
It would seem to me that there is no additional server or download charges whether the customer is in USA or Manila, Philippines. Now if this charge was only for Kindle subscribers they may have some reason based upon their development but remember delivery charges are “Free”. However upon further investigation this charge also applies to purchases of e-books to other countries regardless if they own a Kindle or not.
The end result here is that this really is a major affect on independant writer who charges $0.99 in order to recieve $0.35 where as larger trade publishers can reduce their e-book price by $2 for example $14.99 down to $12.99 and absorb the extra charge and still sell internationally.
The answer to this problem could be www.smashwords.com (they pay $0.56 instead of $0.35 for a $0.99 e-book). They also only don’t place this $2 prohibitive levy on downloaders across the globe.
However, the big picture here is not the bottom line for aspiring authors but more a problem of missing it’s potential global audience throughout the world. One of the big factors of gaining readership globally is the low cost of e-books especially those of independant writers. Of course one might speculate this is playing right in to the hands or large publishers and Amazon.com is bridging the gap on their behalf.
In my opinion, if Amazon dropped the surcharge, e-book sales would rise across the board. More people would purchase e-readers (including, you know, the Kindle), and the market could expand dramatically. In other words, Amazon’s Surcharge is hurting Amazon more than it hurts us. That’s why it’s so dumb.
Well that’s all for today so if you have some comments, please leave your feedback below.

A few ways to make money with Affiliate Programs
As the Social Media Chairman one of the most convenient ways to add revenue to my monthly income is by being involved in Affiliate Programs.
So I’ve decided to write a blog sharing a few ways to make money with Affiliate Programs.
So let’s begin;
Tip 1. Write a review of some products or services, letting people know how good it is. Please don’t forget to include your affiliate link at the end of the review.
Tip 2. Post your review to free sites such as GoArticles.com & EzineArticles.com.
Use your blog or create a new one for free at sites such as Blogger.com or WordPress.com, and post your review of the product or service, including your affiliate link.
Tip 3. ”Ping” your blog at a site such as Pingomatic.com, so it gets picked up quickly by search engines.
Tip 4. Join popular marketing forums such as WarriorForum.com, and make frequent contributions to popular threads there.
Tip 5. Be sure to go into your forum profile and edit your “signature”. Make a signature that includes your affiliate link, or a link to your own “review” website of our product. That way, every time you make a post, anyone who sees it will see your signature and potentially click on your affiliate link.
Tip 6. Once every few weeks post a press release at PRweb.com, in which you include your favorable review of our product, along with your affiliate link. If you pay them a small fee, they will guarantee that your press release is picked up by all major search engines, potentially sending you thousands of visitors.

Bonus Tips and tricks to earn even more as an affiliate
Tip 11. From my experience, you will get the best results from writing your own product reviews, even if it’s short. You don’t have to be a good writer. Just write what you really think about the product. When you publish your product review, use your general affiliate link (on the top) to send user to you product or services website.
Tip 12. You will have much better conversion if you’ll put your visitors into pre-sold mood before sending them to your product or services site. Pre-sold mood means that you build interest in product and visitor has decided to potentially buy it after he reads your product review.
Choose from various types of product descriptions, download and adjust them to fit in your site. Experiment with short or long, try to find perfect combination with banners.
Tip 13. Try to think like a visitor, when he/she comes to your page from a review or affiliate link, you should draw his/her attention, build curiosity or feeling that he might need this kind of solution.
Tip 14. Experiment with different banners, text links, or reviews. Keep these that bring good results, and change the others. Sometimes only change of few words or color of link can mean difference.

Social Media Chairman
Welcome to the WordPress blog of the Social Media Chairman. Why Social Media Chairman? Well many of my friends and clients have called me that over the years so I have decided finally to create a wordpress blog to that namesake.
The objective of this site will be to share with you a high quality content of how you can also conquer the Social Media maze. Even as recent as a few years ago who could have thought that now “Household names” like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Linkedin & Google Plus would all have such a huge effect on our lives.
First of all WordPress allows us to create blog websites very simple and super affordable. Facebook has allowed us to communicate with our friends and workmates with untold flexibility such as adding photos & videos and sharing them throughout our chosen community.
Twitter brings us the a forum where we can speak to all of our followers at a click of a button. Leaving us with a sense of satisfaction that we can visually accept that someone will probably read our message.
Youtube is providing us with interaction via video that probably nobody could have ever dreamed of. It’s definately an avenue where the creator can present his/her point of view and upload for all subscribers and key word searchers to come, listen and interact.
Linkedin is providing some amazing networking opportunities that probably most of us haven’t explored yet. If you’re an employer like myself, it pays to consider Linkedin as the number 1 resources for finding resources over paid websites or newspaper advertisements.
Finally last but not least how can we leave Google Plus out of any social media conversation? Being the latest kid on the block and with the backing of IT giant Google, it sure will be the ultimate Social Media site over the future without a doubt. There could be several revisions and changes of direction, however in the end I’m confident it will be a grand success.
I look forward to bringing you all the information you need to know about social media and how you can be ahead of your competition when it comes to Social Media.
If there are any facets that you would like for me to prioritize, I look forward responding to your comments below.
